On Saturday, September 15th, Rome High School’s Lady Wolves Volleyball team dominated the court at Coosa High School, taking home 2nd place during the Battle of the Counties which was a key tournament for the Wolves as they progress in their season.

Rome High School’s Head Volleyball Coach, Alecia Parker, helped her team prepare for this tournament by training certain aspects during practices. “Leading up to this tournament, we have been really drilling our defense, as that was a weak spot in previous games. I think the girls have done a great job at practice, and I am excited to see how they perform today at the Battle of the Counties,” said Parker.

The Battle of the Counties Tournament was a very important tournament to the Lady Wolves, explained Parker. “Back during the summer, we all set a goal to place either 1st or 2nd in a tournament before the season was over. So, we have been working so hard in order to accomplish this goal. Last tournament, we took 3rd place… We are so close!”

The Lady Wolves did not disappoint, as they ended up finishing the tournament in second place—meeting their summer goal.

“We played really well with a new rotation we put in place,” explained Parker. “As I said before, we wanted to improve on our defense, and the new rotation did just that!”

Parker’s favorite part of the Battle of the Counties tournament was simply seeing her team have fun. “The girls worked so hard, while working together to accomplish this goal. They also had fun while doing it, which is always great to see as a coach,” said Parker.
