One year removed from making a playoff appearance, and starting the 2020 season off 2-0, the Phoenix missed the postseason. The Phoenix won the games they were supposed to win, but they lost all of them they weren’t favored to win. For the next level of success that Sonoraville is seeking, that trend must change.
The Phoenix has a good, talented mix of experience and youth on this 2021 roster. On offense Sonoraville has junior running back Zach Lyles and senior center Jaxx Knight to lead the offense.
After graduating multi-year starter Brady Lackey, Coach Pate and his staff will have to find a starting quarterback from the candidates they have on the roster.
On defense, senior linebacker Jebb Knight will lead a mostly experienced group to try to improve upon a defense that gave up 33 points on average per game last year.
A not-so-friendly region schedule lines up the same way as it did in 2020, when the Phoenix lost 5 consecutive games. It’s going to take a surprise win to return to the playoffs in 2021.
