Runners ready! May 22, 2021, the race is on. Berry College Elementary and Middle School welcome one and all to join in the 13th annual Berry Half Marathon on the beautiful campus of Berry College. 5K, 10K, Half Marathon races are USATF (USA Track and Field) certified and all three course take advantage of the beauty and historic sites on Berry’s campus. Additionally, the race is a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race.
The Berry race has a very polished, professional, and beautiful look and feel. With a volunteer force of 200-250 Berry families, college students/ athletes, and high school students all racers are welcomed to the campus in earnest graciousness. There will be some changes this year to maintain Covid-19 protocols.
Runners will be distanced at the start times and will have assigned times to pick up their race gear and bibs. Refreshments will be offered in individual packages, and race t-shirts will be picked up after the race. These details will help keep everyone, runners, volunteers, and spectators safe while still offering an exciting race experience.
The race committee is excited about the opportunity to host an in-person event this year when so many races moved to a virtual option. But as always we hope participants walk away with a sense of accomplishment and feeling the warm welcome Berry’s campus offers to all those who visit,” says Lori Fredrick, Director of Berry Elementary and Middle School.
Typically scheduled to take place the first Saturday of Berry’s College’s Spring Break to allow plenty of parking and minimal disruption to college activities with the multiple road closures to host the event. Berry College amended their 2021 Spring Calendar, shortening spring break to only one day to minimize travel by college students. This change meant that the race would have to wait until classes ended in May. “We expect this year’s race to offer the same excellent experience for runners that it has always been,” says Fredrick
As in previous years all race proceeds support Berry College Elementary and Middle school, it’s technology and security purchases, and tuition assistance funds that make Berry accessible to a larger and more diverse community.
